Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As we approach Christmas, I want to take a moment—as Chair of Police Chaplaincy UK to send warm seasonal greetings and to express my gratitude for all that you do. This time of year carries deep significance for me personally in my Christian faith as I reflect on the birth of Jesus. For me, Christmas is a reminder of hope, renewal, and the importance of presence and care in our daily lives. It is a time when I am reminded of the gift of family, friendship, and the small acts of kindness that bring light into our lives. Yet I recognise—and value—that this message finds colleagues and friends from many faiths or none at all. That diversity is one of our greatest strengths and reminds us that our shared commitment to care, compassion, and presence unites us all.
Thank you to every chaplain, volunteer, lead chaplain, staff member, and supporter across the UK. Your dedication—whether offering support in times of crisis, listening in quiet moments, or simply being present—makes a profound difference to the lives of officers, staff, and their families. The work you do is valued, respected, and at the heart of our mission.
I want to extend particular thanks to our Board of Trustees for their guidance and oversight this year:
-
Nigel Fawcett-Jones

And to our National Chaplain, Matthew Hopley—Matt—whose vision, pastoral care, and leadership continue to strengthen chaplaincy across the UK.
Looking ahead to the next 12 months, we have exciting opportunities to further embed the Gold Standards across our work, to strengthen connections with local policing teams, and to continue to build chaplaincy that is visible, trusted, and valued. Together, we will continue to champion a culture of care and wellbeing, ensuring that every officer and staff member knows they are supported, heard, and valued and I look forward to working with you on this.
May this Christmas bring peace, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose. Thank you again for your commitment, compassion, and care—your contribution makes all the difference.
